HotBot News may be defunct as of Sept. 2000. It is no longer linked from the HotBot page, while the Lycos news search is.

- Sources: 20 listed on their source page as of 9/15/00.
- Sort: Relevance or date
- Frequency: Formerly, every 30 minutes, but on 9/15/00, the most recent story was from 8/24/00
- Case Recognition: No longer appears to be supported
- Stop Words: Many, including numbers and common words
- Truncation: As in other HotBot searching, the asterisk * is the truncation symbol. It must be preceded by at least two characters. Unlike in regular HotBot, it can only be and end truncation symbol, not internal.
- Boolean: Phrase searching is the default. It does support AND, OR, and nesting. The Boolean operators can be in upper or lower case. Neither NOT nor AND NOT worked. The + - system is ignored.
- Phrase: The default. If a phrase is entered with double quotes, it also is processed as a phrase.
